As we see the global shift to a digital and connected world that is increasing in scale the demand for better, more reliable and intelligent communication networks is on the rise. At the same time that we are still in the process of rolling out 5G in many parts of the world researchers and tech leaders are looking at what comes next which is 6G. Which is expected to be rolled out in 2030, 6G is set to transform the ultra-connected world we will see in the near future.
Beyond Speed: A Different Framework.
6G will see far beyond the greater speed we have with 5G today. We are to get speeds up to 100 times that of 5G which may reach 1 terabit per second. But speed isn’t the only thing. Also 6G will reduce latency to less than 1 millisecond and at the same time improve the network’s performance in connection of large scale of devices.
In today’s world which is very connected and has at play billons of devices that range from autonomous cars to smart glasses which are all in need of real time communication 6G will step up to the mark. It will enable instant communication between not only people but also between machines, things and systems thus supporting full implementation of the Internet of Everything (IoE).
Empowering Emerging Technologies
Today many futuristic technologies that are still in the works will see their full value realized in 6G networks.
- Extended Reality (XR): Virtual reality in which we will see augmented reality and mixed reality to be more life like in experience, real time, and very accessible and these changes will bring about a renaissance in education, entertainment and remote collaboration.
- Autonomous Systems: Self drive cars, drones, and smart robots will use 6G which will provide extreme reliability and low delay for safe and efficient navigation in complex environments.
- AI Integration: 6G networks will have artificial intelligence (AI) at the base of their design which in turn will enable self optimizing and adaptive networks that learn from and react to change.
- Holographic Communication: High tech holograms may soon be a part of daily life which means virtual meetings, remote surgery, and distant collaboration will be as real as in person experiences.
Enabling Global Digital Equality
In another aspect, 6G may play is in closing the digital gap. With high capacity and flexibility 6G is also able to bring high-speed internet to the most remote areas of the world which in turn will see more equal distribution of what digital innovation has to offer. Also this will open up new frontiers in education, health care, and economic development worldwide.
Challenges to Overcome
Building out a 6G network will not be easy. We will see breakthroughs in material science, energy efficiency, and spectrum management as necessary. Also we see that the use of terahertz frequencies which is a piece of the 6G puzzle brings in new issues as they are very much at the mercy of the weather and physical structures.
Also issues of data security, privacy, and ethical AI implementation must be addressed for 6G to benefit all of society.
